Art Under Cover
From Renaissance and Victorian commonplace books to handmade zines, the artist’s sketchbook has taken various shapes and forms, while providing an intimate space through which to plan, experiment, and practice one’s technical and conceptual development. As sites of close observation and creative ideation, the sketchbook is employed as a space to build observational skills, explore drawing media, generate ideas, and conduct research. Through field trips, research, and drawing prompts students students develop their own personally tailored sketchbooks as sites of wonder, critical reflection and imagination.
